Stuart A. Forsyth —
Is a visionary futurist and a veteran bar executive. A founding member of the Association of Professional Futurists, his independent consulting firm is based in San Diego. He is Consultant to the American Bar Association’s Committee on Research About the Future of the Legal Profession.

He served as Executive Director of the State Bar of Arizona and the Arizona Bar Foundation for three years (1997-2000) and in various legal and senior management positions at the State Bar of California for 24 years.

Currently, he is working on a masters degree in Studies of the Future at the University of Houston-Clear Lake with a focus on the future of the legal profession.

Under his leadership, the Arizona Bar significantly enhanced communication with its members, offered its first CLE program via the Internet, obtained a sustaining dues increase, restored the timeliness of its discipline system, began to use technology in imaginative ways, created a free email forwarding address for each of its members, and significantly improved the morale and human resources support of its staff —and the Arizona Bar Foundation created its award-winning Law For Kids web site.

His long tenure with the California Bar gave him broad experience in all aspects of bar association activities, including legal, discipline, finance, administration, technology, government relations, and a vast array of services to members and the public.

He learned what it means to be a lawyer and how to practice law with a small firm in San Francisco, cutting his teeth on appellate and education law under the tutelage of the highly-respected chairman of the California Law Revision Commission.

He obtained his bachelors degree in physics from Occidental College in Los Angeles and his law degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

One of the founders of the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento, he has had a long-standing interest in technology and its effects on society.
